The Borneo elephants
need their forest, now.

In the brink of extinction

Borneo pygmy elephant is one of the most endangered subspecies of Asian elephant. A mere rough of 1,500 left with the critical condition of declining forest, extinction is imminent.

Habitat loss is the major cause

It's the habitat loss and human encroachment that fragments their habitat. The loss of habitat cause Borneo pygmy elephant to suffer from various circumstances.

Loss of food source

Declining forest means declining food source for these smallest of any elephants. Being unable to eat big trunks and dead plants, they are left with little to no food. This would also impact on the ecosystem as the elephant’s waste can fulfil other animals dietary needs.

Loss of water source

Declining forest means declining food source for these smallest of any elephants. Being unable to eat big trunks and dead plants, they are left with little to no food.

Fatal human encounters

They lose their habitat to severe deforestation which causes severe food and water shortage. In turn, they seek survival to human inhabitance. This often causes conflicts with human where it often ends in bloodshed.

The Borneo SOS

The Borneo SOS is a non-profit organization in cooperation with WWF. The organization strives to help preserving the endangered Borneo pygmy elephants. We believe the very root of their endangered status is on us as we contributed to their habitat loss. However, their survival chances are on us too as we are responsible to rebuild their lost “homes” by the wonder of reforestation which have been our endeavors.
